Bold and Wildly Fun!

Artist Jessica Willis

I have recently had the pleasure of meeting Artist Jessica Willis. Jessica is an amazing young artist. She is spontaneous and energetic and an absolute joy to hang out with. I would describe her as wildly fun with a heart of gold! She has the unique quality of being great with people of all ages and has a way of drawing you in and making you feel comfortable. Her Art is both bold and energetic. She puts her heart into her art  and also into those around her.

Jessica received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, specializing in Sculpture, from Ohio State University in 2013. She works with a variety of mediums, acrylic, oil, watercolor and encaustic are just a few. Jessica is guided by intuition and uses nature as a source of inspiration. She tends to paint on location and spends a lot of time out of doors camping and exploring nature. Heritage Roasting Company in Shasta Lake will be show casing her work thru March 30th, 2018.

Jessica teaches various art classes in Redding California. She is a member of the North Valley Art League and that is where you will find her Explorations in Watercolor classes. She is very community oriented and is a strong advocate for the less fortunate. Currently, Jessica works with the Shasta County Arts Council as a manager of the Redding Homeless Art Project and is also Treasurer of Inwood Community Farm. Inwood Community Farm is a non-profit that provides food and education to those in need.

Thanks for the encouragement!  I have always painted in my life and was a very inquisitive and energetic kid.  Coming from a small town, I never considered studying art in college, so I started out pre-nursing.  A few months in, I decided to look at other options and ended up in Art Education for a few months.  I was enjoying the art clases so much that I decided to make the final swap to a Fine Arts degree with a focus in Sculpture (Ohio State University.)  In college, I always painted in my free time, but I wanted to learn about welding, woodworking and mold making. After school, I realized most friends and family were more willing to buy a painting for their home than one of my strange sculptures.

In 2013 I started working toward developing a painting style of my own, and in 2015 we moved to California where we ended up living with a plein air (on location) watercolor painter. He introduced me to painting on location during my many camping adventures.  Since then I have been adventuring and painting Northern California and exploring 4 types of paint. Now that I understand each type of paint's quality and unique attributes, I am starting to combine the different paints in archival ways.
